How to Achieve Your Next Goal

Would you believe me if I told you that I’d been planning to launch my blog since 2015?

I actually published my first blog post on October 5, 2015.

For years I told myself:

“No one is going to read your blog.”

“You can’t balance blogging and motherhood.”

“You’re not a writer.”

“You might fail.”

“You don’t have the time.”

Guess what?

None of those things are true.

People ARE reading my blog.

I CAN balance blogging and motherhood.

I AM a writer.

I have NOT failed.

I DO have the time.

5 months ago I set a goal to launch my blog and I DID IT! I started my blogging journey 27 days ago and I am extremely proud of myself. This may not be big to you but this is huge to me. Over the past couple of months, I've become more consistent, disciplined, and persistent. I proved to myself that my wildest dreams are attainable. 5 months ago I had no idea how I was going to launch my blog but I just knew that I was going to get it done.

Why haven't you gone after your dreams yet, sis?

If fear is holding you back I can relate for sure. My biggest struggle during this entire process was the fear of failure. Once I stopped wondering “what if it fails?” and started believing “it will work out,” everything changed.

“FIRST YOU CHANGE YOUR MINDSET THEN YOU CHANGE YOUR LIFE.”

If fear is the reason why you haven’t turned your dreams into reality yet, please believe me when I tell you everything you desire is on the other side of fear. All you need is a plan and a purpose and I guarantee you will soar.

If you have no idea how you're going to achieve your next goal, I advise you to read my tips below.

6 Goal Setting Tips to Help You Achieve Your Goals

  1. Set a Deadline

Raise your hand if you ever said you were going to accomplish something but you never did. DEFINITELY ME! It’s important to set a deadline for your goals because “a goal without a deadline is just a dream”. We’re not dreaming anymore sis, it's time to take action. At the beginning of the month, we spoke about the importance of setting S.M.A.R.T goals (if you did not read that blog post yet, you can read it here now. As you know deadlines set clear expectations and clear expectations lead to clear results. The main reason I was able to achieve my goal was because I had a deadline. It gave me a sense of urgency and the push I needed to move forward.

2. Join an Accountability Group

I joined an accountability group called SCORE! which is a community of Goal Seekers working towards their goals. Each week we submitted the action we took to get us closer to reaching our goal. It was beautiful to look at the goal tracker each week and see how far we've come. A few other benefits of joining an accountability group is that you receive constant motivation and support and you get to be surrounded by like minded people who inspire you to keep going. 3. Create a Schedule

I created a writing schedule to hold myself accountable. I know myself too well and if I don’t put an event/activity on my calendar it most likely won't get done. We're all busy so creating time to work on your goal is necessary.

4. Track Your Progress

I used a goal tracker to help track my progress. I printed a calendar for the entire year and hung it up on the wall. Each day that I achieved my daily goal, I checked off my progress. Ex: I set a goal to write every day for 15 minutes. If I completed my goal that day, I would check it off. The visual helped a lot because it was a reminder that I still had work to do.

5. Take a Class/Course

I took a 6 week writing intensive with Chantelle to help me grow as a writer, get out of my comfort zone and get to know myself better through my writing. Every Monday, for 1 hour we did intensive writing and had discussions based on the journal prompts. The class set the tone for the week and it motivated me to write everyday.

6. Create an Affirmation Board

There were many times along the journey when I wanted to give up. I needed something to remind me why I started so I created an affirmation board. A few affirmations I wrote were:

  • My dreams are real.

  • I believe in myself.

  • There is room for me.

  • The world needs me.

Every time I felt discouraged my affirmations were there to keep me grounded and push me to the finish line.
