Don’t Forget About Yourself

See this content in the original post

When’s the last time you took a solo staycation? Ever since the pandemic started, staycations have become more and more popular. A staycation is a vacation-like experience in your own city or a nearby one. The goal of a staycation is to rest, relax, recharge, and take a break from your daily routine.

Last month I enjoyed my first staycation of the year at The Row Hotel in Somerville, MA and it was AMAZING! As a mother, Fiancée and business owner, I know the importance of prioritizing yourself. Instead of starting my year off with chaos I decided to start it slow with ease. I’m committed to avoiding burnout this year and I hope you are too!

In this blog post I’m sharing why you need to prioritize yourself and my top three tips to help you plan your next solo staycation.

Why You Need to Prioritize Yourself

If you've ever flown on a plane before, you've heard the flight attendant say, “Put your oxygen mask on first.” The same rule applies for self-care. When you put your mask on first, you're able to effectively assist those around you.

I didn’t learn this until two years after I became a mother though. I thought I had to be “strong” all the time and put everyone else's needs before mine, but I was wrong. Feeling drained, mentally exhausted, and overwhelmed every day is unhealthy.

It’s so important to prioritize yourself because it teaches others how to treat you. By prioritizing yourself you are demonstrating that you are worthy of being taken care of. You are also teaching your children that their health and wellness matters too.

I started prioritizing myself when I realized I am my daughter’s first teacher.  She watches everything I do, and I want to make sure she sees me taking care of myself. As a parent, it's my responsibility to demonstrate the healthy behaviors I want my daughter to implement in the future.

Whether you're a parent or not, I want to remind you that you deserve joy. Your happiness matters just as much as those around you.

Take some time this week to reflect on why you need to prioritize yourself. Remembering your why will motivate you to take action. If you're ready to be more intentional about adding self-care into your daily routine but don't know how, click the link below and schedule a kickoff call with me!

Top 3 Tips for Planning Your Next Staycation

1.Set Intentions

It's important to set intentions and decide what you want your trip to look like. Do you want to focus on resting or would you rather party like a rockstar? For my staycation, my main goal was to rest and recharge. I made sure to incorporate some of my favorite activities though.

2. Set a Budget

You don’t have to live above your means to have a great vacation. Before you plan your trip, make sure you can afford it. Staycations are more cost effective than vacations, but the expenses could add up quickly. Set a budget and stick to it!

3. Create a Plan

Do your research! Even if you don't want to explore the town you're visiting, you still want to plan your meals and take advantage of any amenities the hotel is offering. Here are a few activities you can do on your next staycation:

●        Read

●        Write in your journal

●        Go to the movies

●        Take a nap

●        Go to a restaurant

●        Go shopping

●        Exercise

●        Meditate

●        Watch Netflix

●        Visit a museum

●        Swimming

●        Painting

●        Get a massage

I’ve been traveling solo for the past six years and one of my favorite parts of my trips is sitting alone with my thoughts. We all need time to rest and reset our minds. This month I’m challenging you to spend some alone time with yourself, listen to your own voice and trust your intuition. If you can’t schedule a staycation soon, I hope you still find ways to prioritize yourself. You deserve it!
